January 19 News

Dear Red Falcon Families,

In writing, we are working on posters for composting at lunch. We are expanding our compost program and are working on getting everything set so we can begin on January 29. In reading, we are working on theme and main idea, focusing on the life lessons the author is trying to teach us. In math, we are reviewing for the Unit 3 test on multiplying and dividing fractions that will take place next week. In social studies, we are reading about explorers and how they explored North and South America. For science, we are still working on water and where it comes from.

We didn't get to go into the garden this week because of the rain, so the garden came to our class. Ms. Melissa brought her worm bin to the classroom and we learned about worms, and how beneficial they are to the soil.

Progress reports went out on Friday to those students that are struggling. I will print out more detailed reports for all students next week when we have more paper (it is ordered).

We spent some time on computers this week. We are starting to explore spreadsheets and how they can be used. The students also learned more about Khan Academy and how it can help them in math. Khan Academy can be used at home too.
